The Division of Craniofacial and Molecular Genetics, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine is a newly formed division that performs research that focuses on the development and regeneration of craniofacial skeletal elements and teeth. Basic science research in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology concerns elucidating molecular signals regulating craniofacial and tooth development as a means to improve clinical applications for repair and regeneration of craniofacial and dental tissues in humans.
The Research Technician will help maintain fish in a newly constructed 2,000 tank zebrafish facility and perform molecular genetic analyses of mutant zebrafish and transgenic mouse lines.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Maintaining mutant and wild type zebrafish lines;
- Performing molecular genetic analyses of identified tooth and mineralized tissue mutants;
- Mating mice and timing pregnancies;
- Surgically harvesting mouse embryos;
- Performing other research related husbandry tasks.
Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree with up to 1 year of related experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Office. Ability to lift 20 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in molecular biology techniques such as cloning and gene mapping, surgical procedures in mice, zebrafish and mouse development, genetics, and mineralized skeletal, craniofacial and tooth development are preferred.
