POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Teacher supports children in a safe and supportive classroom environment.
responsibilities:
· Assisting in the planning, preparation, and implementation of individual and group activities, including health and developmental screenings.
· Assisting in setting up and maintaining a clean, safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate environment in the classroom.
· Assisting in implementing program policies and procedures including: reporting observations of children's behavior and progress, maintaining accurate records, making appropriate referrals, and maintaining confidentiality of children and families.
· Interacting with the children in a warm and caring manner; communicating with parents in a professional manner,
· Broadening knowledge of the cultural and ethnic heritage of the children and families served
· Participating in staff training, meetings, parent conferences and home visits as required.
· Cooperating and performing as part of a team.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· High School diploma or equivalent; EEC teacher certification or CDA preferred.
· Demonstrated ability to work with young children.
OTHER REQIUREMENTS:
· Must comply with health/safety requirements as set forth in EEC guidelines.
· Bilingual skills: English/Spanish, English/Khmer a plus.
May be required to lift small children weighing from 30 to 60 pounds.
