General Description and Goals:
One of the key goals of the Boston Public Schools Mathematics Plan is that all students will develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, procedures, and language needed to meet the demands of rigorous state and local performance standards. In the interest of meeting this goal, the Boston Public Schools are engaged in a citywide effort to support and ensure the effective implementation of exemplary curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices in each elementary, middle and high school.
The Program Director, Secondary Mathematics will assist the Senior Program Director, Secondary Mathematics, Principals, Headmasters, Directors of Instruction and school-based Program Directors in the implementation of all aspects of the BPS Math Plan, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation in every secondary school and math classroom, and increase school administrators' capacity to do the same. The Program Directors will also assist school administrators with teachers' performance evaluations, as needed.

Senior Program Director, Secondary Mathematics
Responsibilities:
1. Monitor and assess the implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessments in every secondary school and math classroom and provide explicit feedback and prescriptions to Principals, Headmasters, the Senior Program Director, and Academic Superintendents.
2. Assist school-site administrators in establishing an effective, ongoing program evaluation and development process.
3. Assist school-based supervisors who have little or no background in mathematics in establishing an effective performance evaluation process and professional development program.
4. Conduct performance evaluations as needed.
5. Meet with Principals and Headmasters on a regular basis to assess their needs and provide ongoing support.
6. Ensure the effective implementation of the BPS math assessment program citywide.
7. As part of the ongoing monitoring and program evaluation process, collect and analyze school and student data and provide feedback and prescriptions to schools, the Senior Program Director and the Academic Superintendents.
8. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as designated by the Senior Program Director.
Qualifications
Required:
A. Strong background as a teacher of mathematics in middle and/or high school
B. Strong background as a school-based administrator, with responsibilities conducting program and performance evaluations
C. Teacher certification in Mathematics
D. Deep understanding of and commitment to the NCTM Standards, the Massachusetts Math Frameworks, and the BPS Citywide Learning Standards
E. Strong analytical and organizational skills
F. Strong interpersonal skills with the abilities to be assertive and supportive
G. Strong facilitation skills
Preferred:
A. Knowledge in the use of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Access
B. Strong background in assessment
