The Tribal Youth Programs Training and Technical Assistance Center, Training and Technical Assistance Center for Tribal Juvenile Detention and Reentry Green Program and the Tribal Youth National Mentoring Program in the Health and Human Development Division has an opening for a Training & Technical Assistance Associate (I), reporting to the Project Director.
The Tribal Youth Program Training and Technical Assistance Center will address the need to strengthen American Indian and Alaska Native juvenile justice and other systems–education, mental health and social services, culture, recreation and employment programs–all critical to Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s mission of reducing juvenile delinquency, violence, child victimization, and increasing the safety of tribal communities.
The Center for Tribal Juvenile Detention and Reentry Green Program’s goal is to enhance tribes’ capacity to operate tribal Juvenile Detention Centers (JDCs) that provide culturally appropriate, comprehensive support services and offer educational and vocational programming in green technologies and sustainable activities for detained and reentering youths.
The 7th Generation Community-based Mentoring Program for Court-Involved Tribal Youth (7th Generation) is designed to confront high rates of juvenile delinquency in American Indian and Alaskan Native (AI/AN) communities. Through 7th Generation, Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) seeks to improve outcomes for 10- to 17-year-old court-involved tribal youth by assisting six tribes to build capacity by customizing two Indian-developed best practice approaches for mentoring youth: Strong Circle of Relatives and Sons and Daughters of Tradition.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -
The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.
Under general guidance, the Training & Technical Assistance Associate (I) participates in complex projects to provide professional development training and technical assistance, including:
• research, with expertise in content area
• writing, editing instructional materials
• conceptualizing and overseeing product testing & evaluation
• documenting & cataloguing
• maintaining records, including financial
• disseminating information
• leading facilitation of adult learning and web-based learning
• strategizing
• consulting with specialists
• developing presentations
• assisting with proposal development and project implementation
• analyzing trends and identifying opportunities
• developing innovative techniques
The Training & Technical Assistance Associate (I)
• Builds knowledge and capacity of organizations and staff
• Facilitates project teamwork and feedback exchanges
• Coordinates contract and quality adherence
• Coordinates administrative and logistical tasks
• Troubleshoots complex problems, proposing initiatives and recommending or negotiating solutions
• Provides training and guidance or administrative direction to junior staff; may supervise support staff
• May lead parts of a project or coordinate sections of larger projects
• May travel frequently
QUALIFICATIONS -
This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Master’s degree or teacher certification or equivalent combination of training and education in a related field preferred
• With Bachelor’s degree, 5–8 years related experience in the disciplinary area, social science or public health research, education, training, curriculum design, consulting, organizational development or administrative management, including experience with computer applications, instructional design, and Internet research
• With Master’s degree, 3–5 years related experience (as above)
• Familiarity with multimedia techniques
• Some prior project leadership or supervisory experience preferred
• Experience working with American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations required
