Position Overview:
|
Become a member of the AIR's growing Research and Modeling department. Work closely with a team of scientists, engineers, analysts, and statisticians conducting research and developing models used to estimate and manage financial risk in a changing climate.
|
Responsibilities:
|
• Assimilate emerging research in the area of climate and climate change with a particular focus on how climate affects natural perils like tropical and extra-tropical cyclones
• Conduct original research in the area of climate's relationship to the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events and the correlation of risk between perils and regions
• Develop models and modeling applications to help clients better understand how the current climate and future projected climates could impact risk to property
• Manage the collection and analysis of observational and climate model data and integrate the highest quality data into the modeling process
• Work with other staff members in dynamic teams to achieve set goals and objectives
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Expertise in climate dynamics and climate modeling, preferably with experience understanding the benefits, challenges, and uncertainties related to climate models
• Working knowledge in general circulation theory and coupled ocean-atmosphere dynamics
• Solid technical programming skills gained through practical experience in particular using languages and tools like FORTRAN, MATLAB, and R.
• Solid statistical skills including regression and correlation analysis
• Familiarity with manipulating and visualizing large data sets
• Highly motivated and self-directed with demonstrated experience in advancing complex projects and working with interdisciplinary teams of scientists
• Excellent communication skills
• Risk modeling experience and/or GIS skills are a plus (but not required)

Qualifications:
|
• Ph.D. degree in Atmospheric Science or related discipline, preferably with at least 2 years working experience
