SUMMARY: Performs all Product Engineering functions, based on objectives and goals set forth by the Director of Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Primary individual responsibility is to enable a smooth transition of products from the initial design phase to the high volume manufacturing phase through to end of life. • Work with design teams to recommend design changes early in the design cycle to enhance product performance and functionality; to improve quality and manufacturability, to eliminate variation, and to reduce cost. • Maintain first pass yield targets, quality results, and cost targets for production products within aggressive control limits. • Lead introduction of minor variants and replacements for obsolescence in the Bill of Materials. • Manage development builds in Far East factories to a given schedule and product hardware specification. • Design of Experiments for yield enhancement and other purposes during design and production phase of the product lifetime. • Independently and with others, resolves problems in Far East Factories using strong analytical and problem resolution skills. • Establishes aggressive, thorough, complete and consistently effective schedules/projects for all manufacturing aspects working closely with Supply Chain. • Quickly address production issues with shipping products. Engage the Electrical, Firmware, Mechanical, Quality Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Reverse Logistics Teams to jointly resolve problems. • Assists with product validation to ensure that the final product meets all requirements before production release. • Participates in evaluation/selection of Contract Manufacturers and factory audits. • Trains CM personnel to build and test new products before release. • Writes Trouble Shooting Guides for usage by CMs. • Leads Returned Material debug and root cause analysis • Participate in Audits of the CM
QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Minimum 5 years experience in Automotive or Consumer Electronics field with knowledge of industry suppliers and their capabilities. • Proven ability to make effective decisions in high pressure environments. • Skilled risk assessment techniques to allow production to be delivered on time and mass production to continue to forecast. • Basic knowledge of electronic circuit design, firmware design for microcontrollers, radio frequency design, metal stamping and design of plastics and mechanical elements. • Experience with far eastern contract manufacturers. • Thorough understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes such as injection molding, sheet metal, design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA). Must have a working understanding of Quality Standards required in mass Automotive or Consumer product manufacturing (FMEA). • Must be able to work with multi-cultural remote teams. • Must have smooth organizational skills, diplomacy, conduct effective meetings & conference calls, and be able to communicate effectively • Needs to be self-motivating with the ability to achieve targets using an open mind to new environments and different cultures. • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English • Knowledge of electronic industry standard IPC
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCES:
• BS or MS Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering • With Masters degree in Industrial Engineering: 4+ years Experience in a Leadership role of Product Engineering for High Volume Contract Manufacturing, without MSIE: 6+ years
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct reports but may supervise audits and other internal and external activities.
OTHER: Travel to the Far East and Southeast Asia for up to 14 days. Position requires approximately 25% travel. Preferred ability to Speak, Read and Write Malay and Mandarin.
