Focused on defense electronics, we develop and manufacture a broad range of mission critical systems and components in the areas of communications, combat systems, battlefield digitization, electro-optics, power systems, data storage, digital imaging, flight safety and space.

DRS Power Technology, Inc. provides engineering and manufacturing services for Naval and commercial machinery systems. This includes the design and fabrication of advanced electric machinery including high torque/power density performance permanent magnet motors, generators and associated power electronics, large rotating machinery, industrial turbine technology, packaged power and propulsion systems, mechanical equipment modeling and naval machinery inspection. We are located in Fitchburg, MA, approximately ¼ mile from the MBTA Train Station; Mount Wachusett is 30 minutes away.

 
Position Summary

 
Successful candidate will gain experience in areas such as stress, vibration and fluid mechanics analysis of large rotating power equipment, thermodynamic design for steam turbines, and mechanical design of specific components. This position will involve working with engineers on both military and industrial equipment such as steam turbines, gas turbine generator sets, permanent magnet motors for industrial and ship propulsion applications and other large power equipment. One position is currently available, running from January through May 2010, with potential to extend through August 2010.

 
Minimum Requirements:

 

    * Sophomore, Junior or Senior Mechanical Engineering student
    * Working knowledge of MS Office
    * Self-starter and independent working attributes are essential
    * Interest in developing engineering skills
    * Strong interest in applying mechanical engineering principles to design and analyze large power equipment
    * The individual must be capable of working effectively in a hands-on multidisciplinary team consisting of physicists, engineers, and prototype/test/manufacturing personnel.
    * U.S. citizenship
    * GPA 3.0 or higher
