Systems Engineering Manager – Government & Industrial Robotics Division

Location: Bedford, MA

 

We seek an experienced Systems Engineering Manager for our Government & Industrial Robotics Division. In this role, you will direct the Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) activity and personnel in the G&I Division. You will manage the Systems Engineering staff and processes to ensure "best value" goals of meeting performance and life cycle requirements while maintaining consistency within evolving iRobot practices and methods. The candidate will have practical Systems Engineering expertise in the planning, design, integration, and testing of complex electromechanical systems in a DoD development environment.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 


  • Supervise all SEIT personnel (20+) in the Division. Responsible for recruiting, mentoring, training, performance evaluation, compensation, and department budgets.

  • Responsible for development and management of iRobot internal Integration and Test (I&T) facilities (Environmental Lab, Outdoor Test facility, etc).

  • Develop, establish, monitor, and promote Systems Engineering best practices and methodologies in a rapid product development environment.

  • Develop and drive an integrated, cross functional Integration, Verification, and Validation (IV&V) strategy, including but not limited to compliance tracking/reporting methodology formulation and coordination of test planning and test execution efforts.

  • Establish/document templates/standards for system and subsystem level requirements capture, through interaction in a lead capacity, with internal team and customer to ensure design compliance to operational needs and program priorities.

  • Ensure that SEIT staff is actively engaged in the identification, assessment and mitigation of technical risks with a comprehensive risk and opportunities management plan.

  • Participate as part of collaborative team managing the Engineering organization. Develop competency roadmaps and coordinate execution of SEIT initiatives with staff and other competencies.

  • Support/Lead strategic initiatives for turning customer missions/needs into products. Develop detailed CONOPS based on user input that will guide system design.

  • Conduct/Brief technology insertion and CAIV trades and platform/payload impact assessments.

  • Lead/Participate in Peer, Phase, Quarterly Management and Quarterly Program Reviews and select Bid & Proposal activities as required.



Job Requirements :

Requirements/Qualifications:

 


  • 10+ years experience as a system engineer, systems engineering manager and/or lead technical element in a product development environment spanning initial planning through fielding phases. Advanced degree preferred.

  • BS in Systems Engineering/relevant technical field and/or other technical field and Project Management training.

  • Working knowledge of Department of Defense and System Engineering Practices.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills track record.

  • Excellent oral and written communication/briefing skills.

  • Demonstrated organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.

  • Experience leading hardware development and integration activities

  • Experience leading large ($10M+) proposals or proposal sections

  • Proficiency with DOORS or equivalent Requirements Management tools and methodologies desired.

  • Field Test/Test Engineering experience at military installations and development labs preferred.

  • Military experience using ground combat systems preferred.

  • Special experienced based cases will be considered if minimum skill requirements as specified are not met

  • US Security Clearance Required.
