POSITION: Driver STATUS: Non-Exempt

PRIMARY PURPOSE AND JOB FUNCTION
Working in accordance with established policies and procedures and/or specific instructions from the Director of Resident Services, the driver is responsible for receiving residents and guests in a professional and courteous manner and for providing accurate information/direction as requested.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Transports by facility motor vehicle residents, guests and visitors for scheduled excursions, complimentary or fee for service.
2. Maintains daily concierge log and report, including but not limited to residential access and assistance of motor vehicles and reporting of any unusual occurrence.
3. Responsible for the safety and well being of residents and guests of the community during trips in the local area and throughout New England.
4. Required to assist resident in transferring in or out of the motor vehicle or wheelchair and in gaining access to a building for an appointment or upon return to Edgewood or as needed within the community.
5. Maintains resident transportation vehicle logs, purchases gas and ensures preventive maintenance and inspection schedules are kept current on facility vehicles.
6. Receives, processes and follows up on resident requests/needs, including but not limited to transportation needs.
8. Makes miscellaneous deliveries or pick-ups for the office to the bank, printer, post office, trustees, etc., as needed.
9. Provides quality customer service with a positive attitude and commitment to teamwork while meeting the needs of residents, staff and visitors. Supports all aspects of the Edgewood Community.
10. Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
11. Complies with department dress code.
12. Responsible for distribution of in-house mail and deliveries from outside vendors.
13. During emergencies or natural disasters, may be required to report for duty as assigned by the Director of Plant Operations for the duration of the disaster.
15. Abide by the Edgewood Code of Conduct at all times.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Report any unusual activities or persons.
2. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS
The individual must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below to show they can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, and possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the primary of the job.
Education: Must be 21 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent. Must possess a Massachusetts Driver’s License.
Experience: Two years of experience in customer service and must have a good driving record and possess safe, courteous driving habits. Must display a genuine interest in geriatrics and compassion for the aging; must possess openness in maintaining a multi-disciplinary team approach to care of the elderly.
Complexity: Must be able to work well without supervision using sound judgment in making decisions. Must be resourceful and organized as a large amount of time is spent on the road unsupervised. Must be flexible to meet resident needs for personal transportation services as outlined by Edgewood management.
Supervision: Under the direct supervision of the Front Desk Supervisor
Other Contact: Constant contact with residents, staff, and vendors. Represent Edgewood during outside activities. Contact requires the ability to communicate in English with co-workers, residents and outside guests. Maintain a cooperative and courteous attitude despite simultaneous tasks.
Errors: Errors could result in service delays, resident dissatisfaction, discomfort, or death. It is very important to work safely.
Confidentiality: May be exposed to confidential information whose disclosure would be contrary to the best interest of the community, its residents and professional ethics.
Sensory Demands: Ability to maintain a cooperative and courteous attitude despite simultaneous tasks in a fast-paced environment. Requires continuous mental and visual demands. Must be able to function efficiently despite distractions and interruptions.
Physical Demands: Physical requirements include ability to stand for sustained periods of time, move about on foot to accomplish tasks; raise objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position; bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist; apply pressure to an object with fingers and palm. Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds approximately 100 feet. Ability to perform repetitive or routine duties working from instructions and under standard procedures.
Working Conditions: Exposed to varying degrees of noise, dust, heat, cold, rain, and fumes; subject to burns, falls, cuts and bruises. Ability to work in cramped quarters inside and outside of building.
Supervisory Scope: None.
Travel: Position requires off-property travel.
Equipment: Various facility vehicles, and office and audiovisual equipment.
Work Schedule
Days and evenings as scheduled for transportation, events and functions as directed.
