Description SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Lead the development, design, validation and project management of packaging projects, to include new packaging designs, material conversion / down gauging, packaging equipment procurement lifecycle and Quality and Regulatory compliance. Identify, assess and implement new opportunities / projects through frequent interaction with manufacturing facilities and outside material suppliers utilizing Six Sigma methodologies. Interface with equipment and material suppliers to ensure that the technical needs of the manufacturing facilities are being met on a consistent basis. Align cost saving projects with manufacturing facilities to achieve plant and GBU OPEX goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.Support plant-driven packaging initiatives with technical expertise to complement current plant resources, when required.
2.Assist plant personnel for the specification, acceptance and validation of new packaging equipment with sterile barrier fabrication.
3.Provide expert services to various manufacturing facilities to evaluate current and new processes utilizing Six Sigma methods and tools. These services will include troubleshooting, upgrade recommendations, and quotes for new equipment.
4.Provide Form Fill Seal (FFS) expertise as required to Covidien manufacturing facilities.
5.Lead /manage project resources to achieve required objectives.
6.Support design and selection of packaging materials and equipment for revisions or new product packaging.
7.Assist in artwork creation and revisions of product packaging
8.Prepare documentation for packaging designs on new products
9.Apply latest technological developments to existing product/packaging at the Manufacturing plants
10.Manage direct reports and others as required to complete tasks.
11.Work with Covidien Corporate Engineering Centers of Excellence (COE) to implement world class methods and standards across the business unit.
12.Provide input in the development of the annual CEB and department expense budgets.
13.Assure adherence of all corporate/plant policies.
14.Provide leadership / technical expertise and project support to other business units as requested.
15. Travel (30 – 40%) will be required to include international travel.

Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering or other Engineering discipline or 10+ years with medical device manufacturer (MDM).
Experience: A minimum of 10 yrs of experience with Medical Device Manufacturing and Packaging operations.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Proficient in Six-Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and TQM methodologies.
Skills/Competencies: FFS expertise, Multivac, Hooper etc. Highly developed project management skills to include formalized methodologies, written and verbal communication skills, and strong business acumen. Proven leadership skills. and ability to manage complex projects and problem solving activities. Ability to design packaging and /or prototype packaging using software such as AutoCAD / Solidworks or equivalent design software.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:
Support Packaging function of the Patient Care and Safety Products Global Business Unit (GBU). Successful candidate will be responsible for successful achievement of assigned project goals, timelines and operational considerations to include problem solving activities.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles (below permissible OSHA exposure level), and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
