Sr. Commodity Manager
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
The role reports directly to the Director, Supply Chain and is a strategic addition to an overall team of professionals. In this role you will interface with all levels of management within the organization and be responsible for managing the supply chain for purchased material related to longevity of supply and life cycle management including the development and enhancement of processes and procedures from the selection and qualification of suppliers through receipt of material.
The chosen applicant will assist the Supply Chain Director with objectives as they relate to acquisition of material, supplier development and material cost savings in the life cycle area.
•Implementing and developing a longevity of supply and life cycle management process on a company wide basis for all commodities and suppliers including negotiation, quoting, supplier consolidation, long term agreements/contracts and other strategies approved by the Director of Supply Chain
•Monitoring market conditions and trends for the above commodities and be responsible for recommendations of changes to cost savings strategies as they relate to market trends and conditions
•Developing action plans and managing the execution of supplier improvements to eliminate quality issues and to improve delivery performance to meet the organization’s requirements
•Help the company launch a lifecycle management program that gives Mercury a competitive advantage against our competition. This will help sales make Mercury a compelling proposition.
•Managing quoting and implementation of new components into the Mercury Chain that will need long term supply arrangements.
•Help direct the creation of commodity teams that will help Mercury gain the most from our supplier relationships and drive cost savings.
•Keeping the supply chain as short and as flexible as possible.
•Implement appropriate sourcing strategies to control the company’s purchased material costs and to assure adequate source of supply
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree required.
•9-15 years experience purchasing a diverse portfolio of product including electronic, mechanical and third party products; prior purchasing management/supply chain management in a high mix/low volume manufacturing/made to order environment, engineer to order COTS environment preferred.
•Strong understanding of Distribution channels.
•8+ years experience negotiating with suppliers
•Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
• background in supplier management and negotiations
•Strong problem solving, multitasking and presentation skills.
•APICS or ISM certification a definite plus. This position may require exposure to information which is subject to US export control regulations i.e. the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration regulations (EAR). Additional Preferred Qualifications: •Familiarity with compliance initiatives such as Sarbanes-Oxley, ITAR, FARS, and ISO. •Strong computer skills including the Microsoft Suite of Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) •Oracle ERP knowledge
