Position Summary
This position drives senior level participation in setting, managing and achieving strategic, market-focused objectives and programs for the corporation, as well as directly influencing RCN Metro’s competitive success through its service offerings. It is responsible for all facets of RCN Metro’s marketing activities, including: Market Strategy, Market Analysis, Competitive Analysis, Product Development, Product Marketing, Product Management, Marketing Communications, Brand Management and overall Marketing Operations.
The scope of this position’s marketing responsibilities includes, but is not limited to: Leveraging the existing product set and investments to achieve improved market performance; identifying, developing and driving new product and service solutions, from needs analysis through to revenue generation; identifying attractive new market opportunities, including under-served geographic markets and/or new customer/market segments in which RCN Metro will compete; as well as identifying and leveraging the resources and skill sets of third parties to develop new distribution channels and/or enhanced service offering solutions.
This position assertively removes roadblocks and ensures personal, departmental and corporate resources are wisely invested in programs and activities that lead to the achievement of essential business goals. The position secures the necessary resources to successfully complete projects and meet objectives. It schedules, budgets and tracks all activities of the department and ensures that departmental and corporate objectives and deadlines are met. Proactively works with other functional heads to ensure efforts, processes and operations are implemented.
This position is responsible for Marketing Communications including advertising, website, tradeshow participation, PR activities and the management of programs for successful lead generation.
Key Result Areas – Major Areas of Accountability
• Proactively initiate programs which lead to sustainable competitive differentiation of our service mix in the marketplace and leads to the achievement of the company’s strategic goals
• Initiates and leads the development of new product offerings
• Lead market and network expansion business case development
• Coordinate pricing activities including: Ensuring current list pricing is optimized, and maintaining the pricing tool
• Responsible for life cycle management of the existing service set including but not limited to product positioning, feature enhancement, pricing strategy, product promotion and sales support
• Provide market and competitive intelligence to RCN Metro by tracking competitor pricing trends, market expansions, product expansions and strategic initiatives
• Support the sales force in the development and delivery of sales tools, collateral, case studies, white papers, sales training and customer presentations
• Leads and manages the efforts of a cross functional team, with representation from each functional area within RCN Metro, to ensure that proper procedures and materials are in place to support the marketing and sales of RCN Metro services
• Increases RCN Metro’s brand equity and awareness among existing customer and prospects through events, advertisements and interviews with trade magazines and analysts
• Responsible for the selection of and management of the company’s participation in tradeshows and events
• Responsible for the RCN Metro company website
• Responsible for the advertising campaigns (including print, online and PPC and/or lead gen) to ensure that it enhances the RCN Metro brand and generates leads for the sales team
• Understand the changes in the regulatory environment and its impact on the company
• Review and provide input on proposed customer and supplier MSAs
• Manage the Marketing budget to ensure that all programs are successfully implemented and that their associated costs are within the approved plan
• Responsible for developing and maintaining company key statistics (e.g. Rev by customer, rev by location, rev by product)
Qualifications
• BS/MBA in Finance, Marketing, Business Management or equivalent experience. Management experience required.
• Requires 10+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities within a Marketing organization.
• Proven, successful experience managing the 4 “P”s of Marketing.
• Must have a successful track record completing projects on time and on budget which have clearly led to the enhancement of the company’s position and led to revenue growth.
• A comprehensive understanding of telecommunications networks, DWDM and SONET transport technologies.
• Understanding of and experience in marketing services to the Service Provider community.
• A demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate technical, market and competitive data in order to create a strategy and establish direction for the organization consistent with achieving corporate goals.
• Must be able to perform effectively in an unstructured environment and work with a diverse group, performing multiple assignments, in a rapidly changing technological environment in order to achieve business objectives.
• Strong communication, organization, planning, and interpersonal skills
• Experience integrating the interests of diverse groups to achieve common long-term business goals.
• Must have the desire to be a strong contributor on a winning team. An individual willing to “roll their sleeves up” to do what is necessary to enhance the company and to build upon the solid Marketing foundation.
