Job Responsibilities
The Progress Software industry marketing team creates and markets targeted industry solutions comprised of our products, partner products, and services. Industry solutions must be appropriately positioned for the target industry with products, integrations, appropriate standards compliance, partners and targeted messaging.
This is a new function and we are seeking the right candidate to establish the team and achieve quick success in creating and launching a winning industry marketing strategy. The successful candidate should already have managed the industry marketing function in a software company selling to large enterprises.
The director, industry marketing must have proven leadership skills, personnel management experience, and proven expertise in successfully establishing new marketing processes. The position requires both high-level, strategic thinking, as well as results-driven execution. The position will manage a team of industry marketers and will also own and execute portions of industry marketing. Typical responsibilities will include understanding the market and customer opportunity and applying the appropriate messaging, positioning, sales tools and training to the solution offering within a given industry.
This position works closely with field marketing, marketing programs, product marketing, corporate marketing, marketing operations, partner marketing, strategic alliances and sales leadership and other key stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
• Evaluate priorities and formulate overall industry marketing plan, with specific measures of success. Work with key stakeholders to create a vision for the new industry marketing function.
• Establish a new industry marketing team.
• Develop and execute industry business plans including previous wins, market sizing, addressable opportunity, customer requirements, competitive positioning, etc.
• Work with product management/engineering and demo teams to guide development of industry-specific solutions, technologies and demos. Work with partners to develop joint solutions.
• Work with marketing programs and field marketing teams to develop and execute quarterly go-to-market plans including, for each key industry: lead solutions, awareness, demand generation, sales enablement and partner plans; and supporting materials/content.
• Aggressively position and market Progress Software as the leading infrastructure software solution provider for each key industry. Develop clear, compelling industry value propositions that resonate with customers and prospects.
• Work with the field and customers to deeply understand customer and prospect requirements and provide them with effective sales and marketing tools to win new business. Provide direction and/or drive the creation of industry -specific content including web content, collateral, white papers, customer presentations, customer case studies, ROI models, and solution demos.
• Perform sales training and participate in sales calls to ensure field effectiveness in positioning and selling.
Qualifications
• A minimum of 10 years experience in industry, solution and/or product marketing in the enterprise software market.
• Strategic thinking and ability to define and pursue high level objectives.
• Proven ability to understand and communicate business processes, business challenges and associated infrastructure requirements effectively within different vertical industries.
• Proven ability to provide the overall marketing direction of a solution, or set of solutions in an industry, including but not limited to building a market-driven business case, developing a marketing and launch plan, and directly interfacing with customers, industry experts, press and analysts.
• Experience working with technology partners and system integrators to develop and implement partner marketing plans.
• Proven personnel management and leadership skills. Ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate closely with marketing colleagues.
• An entrepreneurial drive and work ethic, with attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize in a results driven, collaborative environment.
• Application integration or infrastructure software experience is preferred.
• Aptitude for technology and ability to connect technical concepts with customer value.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• BA in marketing and/or computer science, MBA preferred.
