DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: The Major Gifts department includes the Annual Major Giving (currently the Ralph Lowell Society), Planned Giving and Endowment, and Directed Support/Major Gifts, and is responsible for raising funds from individuals and family foundations who can support WGBH at a significant level for annual operating, restricted gifts, the WGBH Endowment and all capital campaigns. The team works closely with WGBH executives, board members and other high level volunteers.
POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the Director of Major Gifts, the Major Gifts Officer (MGO), Classical Radio Campaign, will work in a fast-paced, complex major gifts/development environment and will carry a portfolio of no less than 75 prospects with potential for five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts and will raise funds for the capital campaign for the acquisition and transition of WCRB to a service of WGBH. Primary responsibilities include identifying new prospects as well as working with the existing prospect base, developing cultivation and solicitation strategies, tracking progress, and identifying and leveraging opportunities to connect prospects and donors to WCRB activities and content. The MGO will work closely with, consult, and prepare high-level volunteers, executives, and the president regarding strategy. Responsible for maintaining a working environment that leverages the potential and diversity of the department's entire staff. REQUIREMENTS OVERVIEW: A four-year college degree is required. Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years experience in development with at least 4 of those years demonstrating effectiveness and success in a major gifts or capital campaign environment. Experience working with high-level fundraising volunteers and committees is required. Individuals who have raised funds for music, performance, or other fine arts organizations will be given strong consideration. Ability to multitask with extreme proficiency is essential, as is a sense of humor. Candidates should be prepared to show a portfolio of writing samples from prior work in development.
