General Overview
The new Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care opened in the spring of 2009 in Danvers, MA.  This unique collaboration between academic medical center and community based providers sets the standard by delivering high quality, patient-centered care in a friendly, convenient and efficient manner to the northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire communities.

Advanced clinical services include an Ambulatory Surgery Center (8 ORs), Pre-Surgical Screening, comprehensive Cancer Center, Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiology & Vascular services, Pharmacy and Laboratory services, as well as prevention, wellness and community health education.

Under general direction of the Cardiology Manager at MG/NS Center for Outpatient Care, individual performs a variety of patient contact duties related to the operations of ultrasound equipment as directed by a physician.  Explains safety protocols and routine diagnostic procedures to patients.  The individual must have the capability of performing routine diagnostic procedures with speed, method, accuracy and understanding of theory behind same.
Responsibilities
Conducts equipment system warm-up and quality assurance procedures according to established guidelines to ensure a safe and effective equipment operation.

Correctly identifies the patient by checking patients identification band or two patient identifiers against requisition prior to the start of procedure.

Correctly interprets exam requests making sure history conforms to exam requested.

Positions and instructs patients regarding the procedures.  Must be cognizant of patient's condition at all times.

Selects proper system settings for procedure.

Arranges, attaches or adjusts immobilization and supportive devices to obtain the desired ultrasound images.

Acquires and maintains knowledge of related topics to include, but not limited to ultrasound safety, universal precaution, disposal of contaminated material, proper handling of requisitions (both before and after procedure), interpersonal skills, communications and dealing with difficult situations, etc.

Maintains knowledge of the location of emergency equipment and the procedure necessary to alert the code team.

Maintains a high level of quality assurance for finished images, safe and clean working environment.

Maintains a high standard of professionalism at all times.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
Perform complete echocardiographic examination independently
Able to acquire echocardiographic examination in digital format
Able to prepare a preliminary echocardiographic report
Perform dobutamine or bicycle stress echocardiograms (or beginning process)
Perform expected volume of studies on a consistent basis
Able to use a variety of ultrasound equipment
Understand the scheduling rotation matrix
Attend Wednesday conference if during a scheduled workday

Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.

Knowledge of universal precautions.

Effective interpersonal and communications skills.

Attention to detail.

Ability to provide compassionate care to patients.

Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.

Ability to lift over 5 lbs.

Must be able to read and write English.

Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of patients of all age groups.  Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.

Qualifications
Minimum 1  2 years (MGH experience with no RDCS), with advancement to this level after first evaluation and continued good performance

Minimum 2 years experience with RDCS (non-MGH training)

Minimum Associates degree or 2 year equivalent (equal or related)
BS or BA preferred
Additional education (or certification) will impact salary

Training at MGH main campus or one of its entities may be required. 

RDCS preferred; RDCS eligible
