Job Description:


The Business Planner position is designed to drive optimized sales and profits for Converse and Retailers.  Business Planners apply standard retail sales & inventory management principles, focusing energy against the entire Converse selling cycle - financial planning, seasonal product sell in, in season business / consumer information analysis and product distribution - recommending action steps and influencing key processes in each phase needed to maximize sales results.

 

Manage sales / inventory plans that yield maximum per door sales & profits for Converse and the retailer.   Create quarterly/seasonal plans by gender and door.  Facilitate internal and external agreement on plans.   Communicate final plans to all involved parties.   Adjust in season, monthly.

 

 Acquire, analyze & store in season selling data for the purpose of creating action plans needed to positively influence Converse's business in the short and long term.   Report results monthly versus last year and plan.  Generate exception reports on sales and inventory.  Recommend at once orders, product transfers, markdowns & cancellations to stakeholders weekly/monthly. Track sell-through on key products, product types & auto replenishment styles to create history used in future planning and at once order acquisition.  Report Converse selling Metrics information.  Provide sales information for use in Converse's forward looking product forecasting system.

 

Influence seasonal product sell in process, assisting Sales in the creation of compelling Converse product & inventory recommendations for retailer buyers.   Provide selling data from previous seasons to assist in assortment planing by door/gender/category/class.  Evaluate assortment plans and orders versus Sales Plan. Communicate discrepancies. Evaluate assortment plans versus retail presentation goals, suggest adjustments as needed.   

 

Coordinate product distributions with retailer planner/distributors.  Insure that per door receipts match business needs to optimize sales, profits & stock turn at the total retailer level.

 

Travel as necessary to gather first hand feedback on product assortments and competitive factors. Transform in store information into a business advantage for Converse and the retailer.

 




Qualifications



Business Analysis & Quantitative Skills - The job holder must have demonstrated ability to use key business and financial indicators to ensure profitability of retailers.  Should have buyer exposure and experience necessary to manage an "open to buy" sales and inventory plan.

 

 Results Orientation - To effectively run a profitable business, the job holder must be able to set clear goals, evaluate results, and facilitate execution, working with teammates and retailers.

 

Team Player - A close working relationship with Sales, other account focused co-workers, sales management and retail buyer organization is critical for success in this position.

 

Communicativeness - Job holder should readily communicate with others.  Should use technology to maintain a constant flow of accurate, timely information needed to effect positive business progress and change.

 

Customer Knowledge - Understanding retail and retailer organizations from a functional perspective is a skill that will be required for effectiveness.

 

Consumer Relevance - Since Converse's success, as measured in retail sales, is ultimately in the hands of consumers, job holder cannot expect to reach goals without addressing the needs & wants of the consumer.

 

Resource Efficiency / Multi Tasking - The key to this position is the use of information to improve business results.   To affect real change, the job holder must have personal discipline to complete many tasks on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly time table with precision and accuracy.

 

Information Seeking - To obtain and understand sales results, it is important that the job holder actively solicits information from buyers, sales reps, and merchandisers to understand the why behind the what and use this information to improve business.
