Purpose	Seeking a Database Software Engineer to lead and support a variety of challenging research and customer-directed software development efforts. The role will involve rapid prototype development working with other members of a high performance software development team.
Key Functions	Develop databases and associated web applications, support the development of research proposals, support and execute internal and sponsor-funded research and development activities, conduct product evaluations, participate in tradeoff analysis, and provide technical guidance to acquisition programs in related areas of expertise. Must be comfortable in a high visibility role with significant responsibility and business impact.
Required Education/Experience:	BS or equivalent and 5 years of related experience, or MS or equivalent and 3 years of related experience, or PhD and 1 year of related experience.
Desired Education/Experience	* BS degree in computer science or related technical discipline; MS degree preferred. * Minimum five years of experience designing and administering relational database systems. * Must be willing to be submitted for higher-level clearances and accept them if granted.
Required Skills:	* Fluent in one or more of the following database products: Oracle (preferred), PostGres, MySQL. * Strong database design skills and experience with SQL query optimizations, stored procedures, and rapid software development in a high-energy environment. * Java programming skills * Familiarity and experience with web application development frameworks * Must be able to manage both up and down a project's technical team and feel comfortable presenting in front of large groups if necessary. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Skills	* Ruby on Rails schema design and middle-tier development patterns highly desired. * Data mining and data warehousing techniques. * Knowledge of Open Source software tools & projects. * Project management and technical support of business development. * Linux operating system commands and script writing.
Travel Statement	*This position will require overnight travel up to 5% of the time.
Clearance Statement	Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. For this position, MITRE will consider only applicants with security clearances or applicants who are eligible for security clearance.
